Vineyards with lush green grapevines on rolling hills. A building, Hillside Winery, featuring an attached tower, sits in the distance, surrounded by trees and mountains.
A View Along The Naramata Bench.

On May 13, 2019, wineries in the Naramata Bench joined Skaha Bench, Okanagan Falls and Golden Mile Bench, near Oliver, as wineries that meet the requirements of the Wines of Marked Quality Regulation.

The Naramata Bench is roughly defined as the bench lands between Penticton Creek and Okanagan Mountain Park on the east side of Okanagan Lake. Nowhere else in the Okanagan Valley can you find so many wineries packed into a single touring route, with breathtaking views and delicious dining options as well. You can pair your wine country visit with a selection of adventure sports, from kayaking to mountain biking and rock climbing, or take it easy by the beach at one of the many lakeside resorts. (Including one public nude beach.) The vineyards of Naramata Bench boast ideal conditions for full-flavoured white varietals, as well as earlier ripening reds.

Features

·         Average 1,350 growing degree days.

·         Primarily stone-free soil with distinct organic matter, rich topsoils formed in silt loam, glacial lake sediments.

·         Gravelly soils occur at high elevations and on steeper slopes.

·         Long frost-free periods due to the moderating influence of Okanagan Lake and sloping aspect.

A map of the sub-appellation is available on the BC Wine Authority website.
